Amira Motair

“As a Communications Intern at Start Lighthouse, I had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with a passionate team dedicated to literacy advocacy. I loved applying my creativity and writing skills to enhance our social media presence and organize impactful events, such as the 4-Year Anniversary Celebration. The literacy hubs were more than just spaces for learning—they were safe spaces where students thrived through lessons, author visits, and access to empowering books. Witnessing this transformative impact deepened my commitment to addressing educational inequities, and I am profoundly grateful for this inspiring experience.”

“Working with Start Lighthouse as a Programming Intern was genuinely one of the best experiences of my college career. I started interning with Start Lighthouse because I was looking for opportunities to learn how to build a career centered on making education more accessible. Not only did I get to work with students in the Bronx and in Brooklyn through literacy programming, but I was so lucky to experience the vibrant joy that comes with Start Lighthouse’s Literacy Hubs, specifically through their book shopping events and author visits. This internship also allowed me to expand my experiences in marketing, fundraising, social media, and web development—key skills that have become integral to my career after graduation.”
